A cross-curricular, collaborative effort by Pennsylvania College of Technology psychology and nursing faculty and a college counselor to enhance students’ mental health was highlighted at the Higher Education Suicide Prevention Coalition’s Annual Conference, held recently in Pittsburgh. Fifty colleges from 21 states took part in the conference. Presentations and workshops focused on how college campuses partner with communities and organizations to promote mental wellness needs and decrease suicide risk.
Pennsylvania College of Technology has appointed Kate Hummel as senior director of campus life and the residential experience. She began her duties on June 10. “Kate’s experience and expertise is second-to-none in the field of student affairs; her arrival will enable us to move student life forward in innovative and exciting ways,” said Jennifer McLean, dean of students.

The Penn College community is getting a Rugby Club! The student organization was officially approved this spring by the Student Government Association and the Office of Student Engagement. Over 650 students descended on Capitol Eatery in Dauphin Hall last week to partake in a favorite Penn College campus tradition – Midnight Breakfast. Dining Services also presented other tasty delights leading up to finals and free study-break treats. Navigating the end-of-academic-year pressures never tasted so good!
The state Department of Education has awarded Pennsylvania College of Technology $39,470 for the project “It’s On Us – A Call to Wildcats,” a comprehensive initiative to offer training and awareness on the prevention of sexual misconduct. The college’s effort is part of the “It’s On Us PA” statewide campaign that invites everyone to play a role in ending sexual assault.
Thirty-eight Penn College students were honored during the Awesome Woman Exemplar Ceremony, held recently in the Thompson Professional Development Center. The women were nominated by student peers, faculty and staff.
A new fitness area is available to Pennsylvania College of Technology students – the Flexible Space. Located in the Fitness Center on the third floor of Bush Campus Center, the Flexible Space is a separate room for doing sit-ups, stretches or light weightlifting. A recent grand opening drew more than 65 attendees and a round of applause.
Student teams gave it their all during Wildcat Wars, a grueling and gladiatorial contest of wills and wiles, that was won in a Friday night squeaker.
Tuesday's Grad Finale, a helpful semester-ending tradition, provided assistance to students participating in one of three commencement ceremonies to be held May 12-13 in the Community Arts Center.
